Where we work
The total population in the Kilifi and Kaloleni districts is expected to be 709,221 by 2010. 72% of this population live below the poverty line.
Located in the Coast Province of Kenya, the districts have suffered from severe under-development over the past few decades.
The two districts are among the poorest in Kenya, with about 72% of the population living below the poverty line. Slightly less than half (45%) of eligible children go to school and the HIV/AIDS prevalence is 10%*.
These statistics have contributed to a high incidence child labour, prostitution and drug abuse.
Despite this, under the Kenya Vision 2030 Strategic Plan, there is renewed focus to enhance the lives of the people in Kilifi and Kaloleni communities and SCOPE will be at the forefront to strengthen and empower them toward better lives.
