Providing sanitary towels to girls

One of the main issues facing young and adolescent girls in impoverished communities like Kilifi is access to and knowledge about safe sanitary towels.

A pack of sanitary towels in Kilifi costs about 50ksh, which is the same price of a whole packet of 2kg maize flour!  And with a family’s priority to put food on the table, many girls are left to fund their need for sanitary towels by any means possible. This often means that girls are so desperate to find sanitary towels they are exposed to risky sexual behavior with boyfriends or older men.

So SCOPEs SMART Youth Club have a goal to support these girls by providing them with education on use and the provision of affordable, hygienic sanitary towels.
