HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care

SCOPE was established in 1999 when Health Professionals in the Kilifi District identified a worrying increase in HIV infection in their communities and decided to do something about it.

Since then, SCOPE has been working the Ministry of Health and Donors to increase services to People Living with HIV/AIDS, increase awareness of the virus and educate the community about preventing infections.

Pin prick that holds all the answers

In partnership with several donor and government programs, SCOPE has been implementing HIV prevention programs that promote behavior change through peer education as well as counseling and testing. Our program builds on local knowledge and contacts within our community, our relationship built over the years working with the Ministry of Health and the expertise of our funding partners to link people to health and other support services.

So far, we have achieved the following success:

  • Distributed over 1 million condoms
  • Reached over 360,000 people during our Outreaches
  • Referred nearly 50,000 people for treatment
  • Trained over 400 community members a Peer Educators or Youth Volunteers
