Food Distribution

In partnership with the Ministry of Health, the World Food Program , SCOPE implement and manage the ‘Food by prescription’ program.

The program helps people living with HIV/AIDS with a low nutritional status, orphaned or vulnerable children and pregnant women.

Today, we provide nutritional support to over 1000 families affected by HIV/AIDS in the Kilifi and Kaloleni Districts

HIV out-patients suffering from a combined burden of HIV, social stigma, hunger & poverty are particularly vulnerable to malnutrition in the district, thus leaves them highly vulnerable to fatal illness.  Receiving food as prescription i.e. food designed to provide substantial nutritional benefit (Corn Soya Blend) allows HIV patients to maintain good health and empowers them to lead rewarding lives.

As well as CSB, patients, OVCs and pregnant women receive supplementary food stuffs including wheat and oil for the rest of the household.  In addition to this, SCOPE also monitor the progress of clients receiving nutritional support in Kilifi & Kaloleni districts on the Coast of Kenya.

SCOPE work with 23 HIV&AIDS support groups to help them develop a sustainable livelihood to reduce reliance on Food Support.  Each group has between 15-30 members.

SCOPE retain the responsibility to:

  1. Ensure correct quantities of food are delivered and stored safely and efficiently.
  2. Ensure each patient receives their correct amount fo food every month
  3. Assess why some clients have not collected the food
  4. Recruit additional patients from target groups and ensure all vulnerable target groups are accounted for
  5. Do follow-up house visits and connect families and clients to other programs such as Business Development and Home testing
