Agriculture

For our community, Agriculture is the main route out of poverty. SCOPE work to enhance the impact of Government initiatives to achieve this.

In our community, Agriculture employs 85% of the population. Therefore, between 2008 to 2010, SCOPE worked with the Ministry of Agriculture and DANIDA to enhance the public works provided to the public to provide a platform for the private sector to lift communities out of poverty.  As a key stakeholder within the community and leveraging off our strong community ties, SCOPE was selected to ensure the projects implemented met the needs of the public.

We achieved this through:

• Feedback/Comment boxes placed at important community centres throughout Kilifi District
• Village meetings and information sessions
• One on one interviews with key agricultural persons within each community
• Public Notice Boards and Radio Announcements

SCOPEs role ensured that projects planned by the Ministry were implemented as per the needs of the people and that Transparency increased.  As a result, our communities benefited from new infrastructure, Market Centers complete with Livestock sheds, Water Pans and Irrigation, Livestock Husbandry and Farmer Schools.
